He got first his start at 98.9FM after placing third in the Corona Extra Cool Summer D.J Face off, although he only stayed with the station for a couple of months. He continued his career at BOOM Champions 94.1FM working the weekend shift, carefully learning about the different facets of radio before graduating towards the top spot: hosting the morning programme alongside Marc Anthony. Currently, he can be heard on Mondays to Thursdays from 7:00-10:00p.m hosting ‘Raw Nitro’. On Fridays, he hosts the ‘Hot Spot’ from 3:00-6:00p.m and on Saturdays he hosts the ‘Barbershop’ from 9:00a.m-12:00p.m.  An FX Trader spokesperson, he is also joins a list of other local celebrities as one of the faces for Digicel and was proud to admit that his favourite dish is crab and dumplings. Mr. Smooth, real name, Randy Mansoor took some time out to chat with us on Hot Seat; let’s hear what he had to say.
ET&T: Any groupie experiences?
M.S: yea boi….real plenty. But this one was the worst. I used to host an after work lime at 5th Element and this girl started sending letters to me. She started sending letters to the radio station and she started texting me and it was really getting ridiculous. So one day I decided to take my girlfriend and the girl started to cry. It was really embarrassing because the girl REAL cry. That was the worst of all it was a real ‘make-out scene’. Normally I would get like text messages and the comments on facebook but nothing like this. The girl even came by my grandmother house, I use to live by my Grandmother at a point in time and she showed up there.
ET&T: Have you ever received ‘payola’?
M.S: never done that; never have and never will. REAL people approached me to do it. What are you getting out of that? If you even have to pay me to play your song then that means that it is not good anyway. It means that it is mediocre, that it wouldn’t be a hit. I rather tell you, aye work on your music, you know? I like to give constructive criticism. Plus I like to give everybody a chance, if your music is good it will play. Artistes need to spend more time perfecting their craft and making the music good. I believe in good music too, in positivity. I don’t really ‘much up’ that Gully/Gaza thing. I am a strong supporter of local music and I believe in what BOOM is doing, even before BOOM I supported local and I REAL rate local music.
ET&T: What was the most amount of money that an artiste ever offered you to play their music?
M.S- Seven thousand dollars
ET&T: Nah! What were the terms and conditions?
M.S- Terms? We didn’t reach that far. He said he wanted to meet me to discuss something so I said all right. So we’re sitting in my car and I play the C.D and he asked what I think. I said well it’s not that bad. I couldn’t tell him it sounded like ***t; I mean he is a popular guy but we not that close. So then he pulled out an envelope and said, “Well I have $7000 here so what we go do?” I said, “What we go do?” then I told him I don’t accept that. If your song is good, it will get play, I keep it real. Plus I know people who have accepted that and the artistes will ‘ring off’ your phone right through asking you, when it will play and why it not playing. I’m not going through that.
ET&T: As this month marks the 30th Anniversary of the discovery of the HIV/AIDS virus, do you know anyone who has died from HIV/AIDS?
M.S: No, I don’t know anyone. I don’t even know anyone who had a friend who died from it or anyone living with it. And even now we are living in the 21st century so people should educate themselves more and protect themselves. Out here different, real different. When I am on the radio or even when I am performing in parties I would encourage people to ‘condomize’, yes condoms may not be 100% safe, but it’s a step in protecting yourself.
ET&T: It is said that D.J’s have REAL ‘girls’ and that they are all ‘players’, what is your view on that?
M.S: I’m a victim of that and I hate it. I know plenty D.J’s who on my frequency and D.J’s who on other frequencies too and they’re REAL bad. I’m not lying but there are those like me who innocent and who really faithful and we get blamed because of the stigma. Like I said I came from ‘nothing to something’ so I know the life.  Plus I ‘put people in their place’ from early, I don’t let anybody ‘jump out’ themselves.  My girlfriend heard REAL things about me and is only after she realized well, I’m not what they said I am. It’s just people spreading rumors. Plus I HATE easy girls!!!!! I HATE un-educated girls!!! The first thing they say is “You’re an Indian? You don’t sound like one”. I’m not even sure how an Indian is supposed to sound.
ET&T: How does it feel to be one of the sexiest D.J’s on radio?
M.S: Wait….wait…first of all the sweetest Indian ever!!!! (laughs) Seriously, I don’t rate myself as much as people do.  I am a very normal and down-to-earth person. Some people try to make it into more than what it really is. Like if I go out or even to a Restaurant they will say “aye look Smooth from BOOM Champions”. Yea I’m Smooth from BOOM champions but I’m also a person. You could approach me, you could talk to me. I am probably one of the coolest guys you will ever meet. Some persons say I look too serious, I don’t smile but you could talk to me. I just have to keep myself always looking a certain way, keep myself at a certain standard. I appeal to a Corporate market now so I need to watch my actions. Like I use to lime by the Dial in Arima, every night because I am from Arima but all that has changed now. I’m a role model for the youths now too because that is my target market, young people, so I must always maintain a certain standard.
ET&T: Is it hard to stay in a committed relationship?
M.S- It’s not hard at all for me. You just have to know what you’re about. Then even now, so many people are being unfaithful and just sleeping around and so many people are getting diseases from herpes to… you know? It’s not so much the disease factor for me but I know that I am in a relationship and I am committed, I hope that the other party is committed to me too. Plus when I make a decision I stand by it. You can tell me whatever that will not make me change my mind. Plus what ladies get from saying that they slept with a D.J? Yeah he’s a D.J but he’s a normal person is that some kind of ‘pips’?
ET&T: Have you ever been unfaithful in a relationship?
M.S- Oh boy…….here comes the tough questions….hmmmmm…do I really have to answer?
ET&T: Yes you do.
M.S: Yes, but it was like a kiss and I didn’t make the move the other person did.
ET&T: Was it in this relationship or a past one?
M.S: ……….a past relationship.
ET&T: Describe your dream girl.
M.S- She has to resemble Alicia Keys.  She must be red skin, real shape…..
ET&T: Describe real shape?
M.S- Coca cola bottle shape with real hips, well not REAL hips, but hips. Nice clean skin, no marks. Nice light brown eyes, curly hair not too long, nice toes, not too much big boobs just right and a nice bumper….not too big.  Must be ambitious and educated.
ET&T: So what then is ‘wifey’ material?
M.S- That’s it…..dream girl and ‘wifey’ material in one.
ET&T: What keeps you happy in a relationship?
M.S- Ummm….. a lot of different things yes. The little things keep me happy. Umm…I hate to quarrel so if I and my girlfriend disagree on something we would just talk it out rather than have a ‘cuss-out’. We just talk to each other about stuff.  She has to be nice, able to cook and clean just make sure my room clean and I have food on the table. Don’t let me come home and it have no food.  And as long as we have a good understanding, I am really not a hard man to please.
