Readers Review ‘Fete Fails’
Trinidad and Tobago has played host to no shortage of A-list international celebrities. Even the late great King of Pop Michael Jackson once moonwalked on a local stage. However, these big budget events don’t always go as planned. Sometimes fans get a lot more than they bargained for and a lot less than they actually paid for at concerts and fetes. Some artistes provide lackluster performances, while others carded to perform never set foot on stage. Some of our readers had a chance to voice their opinion on their most memorable ‘Fete Fails.’
Temperature this year failed. A brown dog passed through. Busta was decent, but It buss bad. It had enough space to run a game of small goal in the general admission. I don’t think Trinis are feeling Busta Rhymes as a top draw act like that. You can’t put him to headline a Carnival event, especially after all your ad teasers imply stars like Drake.

I think it was 1998 or 1999 when DMX came to Trinidad and had to arrest him for using obscenities on stage. I personally didn’t have a problem with what he was saying on stage and neither did the other fans apparently. It had a big bacchanal after they pulled him off stage at the oval. Police had to fire warning shots. It was crazy. It was unforgettable for the wrong reasons.

Toni Braxton and Rick Ross the promoter of the two events advertised, sold tickets and created a huge buzz about the tow concerts. Then about two days before both each event the promoters of both events advertised that the both artistes were going to be a “no-show” I think it’s ridiculous that these sorts of things happen and from the day tickets go on sale everything and everyone advertised for an event should be paid for and booked.

The Mavado concert a couple months ago was a complete buss. Although Mavado was there as promoted, a lot of other artistes who were supposed to be there were a no-show. The VIP was nothing like advertised and definitely not worth the money. Also Movado’s performance was poor.

Last Year’s Beyonce concert left a sour taste in my mouth. After all the advertising and hype and all the money that was spent I expected a lot more. Her performance was great, but the concert is not just about her performance, but the entire experience. Many patrons had difficulty seeing the stage and the toilets, food and bar were a nightmare.

I don’t know if this qualifies as a fail, but the last Plymouth Jazz Fest with Whitney Houston was not good for me. After I saw her performance I was pissed. She performed less than ten songs and she did not hit one high note all night. I felt as though I should have stayed in Trinidad and played Scrabble with my kids that weekend. I went to see her and I was sorely disappointed.
