Meet the New Makamillion Family
Promoter turned all round entertainer John Alibocus has transformed once again, just in case you’ve been out the country, and put forward the Makamillion Family. The group has been working strategically and continuously to be recognized in the music arena and not just as Soca figures but as a year round versatile music unit. Current members of the group are Orlando Octave, Kerry John, Jade Lopez, Jessie, Muzic, Nessa, Royal, Isaac King, Pilot, Alibocus and producer Spine.
The group recently launched their latest project, the Zip Riddim. Released to some of the popular urban radio stations on Friday 14th May, John says he’s happy with the final product adding, “This one’s different, more of an R&B conscious reggae track.” The Zip riddim features Terri Lyons, Orlando, Pilot Music & Kerry John and Alibocus.
Sharing the origins of Makamillion Family, Alibocus said, “I brought together the group. It started when I met Spine in Freedom last year and decided to make a change, a movement into the new; one thing led to another and here we are today.” Orlando Octave is possibly the most known entertainer in the group along with Kerry John for Soca but Alibocus clarified, “We’re multicultural. We do dancehall, R&B, Soca, whatever.” Asked whether the T&T climate was receptive to those genres of music from locals he added passionately, “We’re doing it out of love of music. Music is music and in whichever market for it to crossover, well, whoever loves it will take it there.”
The future plans include a lot of planes. Alibocus alluded to trips to Boston, Miami Florida, England and New York. Already the Family has new music in the works for Carnival 2011 and you can expect to see a lot more of Alibocus who has recently been signed as the face of TGIF, Trinidad and Tobago. Fans can catch the Makamillion Family in club Sting on May 30th for their Sexy in Black party.
