Linx Plans Water Slides and Pools for Big Birthday Bash
When naming the top ‘ladies men’ in Trinidad and Tobago, one name is sure to pop up on everyone’s list: Kevin Linx. The debonair D.J is set to turn 34 on April 14th and the 12 hour birthday party is to be held on the 30th at St. Johns Hall in Port-of-Spain. Although he is seen as a ladies man, he attributes his ability to understand women to his easy going attitude and down-to-earth style, which contributed to the start of a one hour segment on Boom Champions 94.1FM entitled ‘Ladies Lunch Room’.
Kevin Dunning, who has been in the radio industry for the past thirteen years, said that his first job was in the Public Sector. He said “My first job was working in a Laboratory doing HIV testing and one day after wok I visited a friend who was playing with his ‘toys’ as we called it back in the day. Then, I asked him to teach me what he was doing; after that I just couldn’t stop, I liked it.” He has played for some of the country’s top radio stations including his current job at Boom Champions 94.1, RED 96.7 and at 98.9 where he met O’Brian Haynes.
He got his start in radio at 98.9 and was also a member of the group Sel Construction with Yohan Seaton who was the group leader. He admits that one of his most embarrassing moments was with Seaton, who has a very unconventional way of giving motivation. “The first time Sean Paul came to Trinidad, Sel Construction played at that concert and as I was ‘juggling’, he (Seaton) thought that the vibes in the concert wasn’t good. So he took off the music and asked the crowd if I was playing ‘B.S’ and the crowd responded yes. Then he told the crowd if they thought I was playing B.S then tell me, and they said it. Then he told me every song I played from then on, had to be a hit. And I am talking about a crowd of about 8000 people. I was really embarrassed.” he said. But from them on he never gave Seaton the opportunity to do anything like that again, so it was a blessing in disguise.
The father of four believes in having fun and usually hosts parties during the year, but this year and for his birthday he is having a spectacular 12 hour party called ‘Mirror Ladies- reflection in water’. He said “This year, we are taking the party to a different level, I’ve always done clubs but I’m doing an event this time from 12 midnight to 12 mid-day.” He described the dress code as “the skimpiest of the skimpiest” and added that there will be water slides, above ground pools, water trucks, a wet T-shirt competition and even a J’ouvert Session, which starts from 4:00a.m. “The J’ouvert Session will feature 2 hours of soca music from 4:00a.m-6:00p.m and this is to show that we can have Carnival events in April too, not only in February and March.” Although he may seem outgoing, Kevin admitted that he spends most of his time at home when he is not working.
