Erotic Art Week Opens 'Wider' In 2010
Trinidad’s first erotic art week made its debut in 2009 during the period: June 23rd-July 2nd in the environs of Port of Spain. The starting theme, "Open", invited participants and visitors on an erotic journey of artistic expression. The erotic event is here again this year and will run from 21st July to 31st July and will be spread across a number of POS venues as did the previous. This year the slogan is “Wider”. It is the intention of organizers to reach a wider spectrum of styles, disciplines and even nationalities and increase the exhibition’s audience.
The exhibition is organized a by graphic designers Christian Alexis and Richard Rawlins, choreographer/writer Dave Williams, and architect Terry Smith. The exhibitions will consist of fixtures of visual work, the spoken word, poetry filled performances and discussions of erotic elements of Trinidad’s Carnival.
Patrons attending the event last year described experience as “mind blowing”. According to Dave Williams in an exclusive interview …“I’m just one of the people on the project. Christian Alexis, graphic designer and artist first approached me with the idea. We pulled in Richard Rawlins, another designer and Terry Smith an architect. Since then a few other people like Lisa Allen-Agostini, Darren Boodan and Rodell Warner have joined the Erotic bandwagon. Dave hailed the show as the first of its kind in Trinidad and Tobago.
Erotic Art week launched a series of exhibitions showcasing artists who ventured into their view of understanding what Eroticism means. Organizers said that in the future they are certain that trends, socio-political and cultural circumstances, experience and contributions will become even more definitive, but as for now it’s just WIDE OPEN.
