So we’re seven months away from ‘the Greatest show on Earth” and although it’s a bit early we haven’t heard anything from our local soca artistes. Apart from the minor controversies that have been circulating since March, some of their Carnival 2011 hits are still pumping on the radio.
HD’s female front-liner Patrice Roberts is in the studio already working on some new songs for 2012. She said “I’m getting ready to go on tour next month and just working on some new songs.”
Fellow female soca star Denise Belfon is also touring and is planning a big launch in the future. She said “I am planning to launch something huge, but I don’t want to say anything because I don’t want anyone to steal my idea,” she laughed. She added that she wants to thank all the fans for their support at Soca Monarch this year as she continues to show her support for Mr. Monroe “150 percent” she added. It’s surprising how these artistes can keep the momentum going after such a hectic Carnival 2011.
Destra Garcia says that she is already working on her album for Carnival 2012 and is preparing for tour this weekend. “I did some music in Jamaica, did some music here, I’m just really recording and preparing for Carnival 2012.”
‘Two million dollar man’, Machel Montano is in the studio recording and releasing songs. Band Manager, Elizabeth ‘Lady’ Montano says that he is currently working on songs, following his latest release ‘Different Wine’ off of the ‘Doo Doot’ riddim. Ms. Montano said “He is releasing and recording some work for during the year, crop over and for Carnival 2012. He’s working with different producers and we are planning an unofficial tour abroad.”
Blaax joins Machel as being one of the busiest men around since the Carnival season is over. The Roy Cape front man is planning to release a reggae song for Summer. He said “We are focusing on the Summer right now. We are working on some summer releases and this is the first year that we are planning to do so. We will also be touring, every year we set aside a month for Toronto. Plus we are working on a ‘Best of Blaax’ album. This will feature some songs done live, some past and present songs. So you can look out for that.”
With all the recording and releasing, I bet we can look forward to an even more exciting and fun-filled Carnival 2012.
