3Canal Plans Ahead

After Carnival the fanfare dies down and not a squeak is heard from our Soca entertainers, for the most part. 3Canal is a band with a different plan, (though they may not fall under the Soca entertainer label contributing way more to preserving the culture of T&T with their twist of Rapso.)

 

ETNT caught up with Wendell Manwarren at the band’s home on Ariapita Avenue in June for a quick chat on the groups near future plan and into Carnival 2011. “Since the end of Carnival we are on a break, no pun intended as Stanton actually has a break foot LOL!” Stanton was involved in a vehicular accident on Carnival Monday this year, he is recovering well. Mawarren shares that the break is more as a performing entity from studio recording. “Usually by this time we would already be on tour. Were expected in France about now but due to Stanton’s accident, well we’re on a break,” says the artiste. For now they are doing ‘office stuff’, handling requests for gigs, charting for the rest of the year and making notes on the calendar. “Emancipation is coming so we have a project called FREEDOM.COM and then we have something around Independence as well. So we do a lot of things in between the seasons.”

 

What’s in store for 2011? “If we can survive all the NAPA-ing and Calder Hart-ing and all that, it would be a very exciting year, it’s the longest season in a while so that brings its own energy. It’s a chance to do something new and fresh… bring something different, a little more creative, still having the 3Canal show but what kind, how and where are options.”

 

On Sunday August 01, emancipation Day 3Canal will host FREEDOM.COM poolside at the Carlton Savannah, St Anns. It is the launch of the MLF - The Music Liberation Front and will feature 3Canal, Ataklan, 12 the Band, Kin, DJ Rawkus & DJ Rhythm International. ‘Dancing Room Only’ show starts 7pm and tickets are $200 available at The cut + clear office on Ariapita Ave. For more info call 623-7411 or log on to www.3canal.com
